Food Donor: Earth's Own

A Second Harvest food donor since January 2015, Earth’s Own donates 16,000 pounds a month of high-quality, nutrient-dense product from the So Nice, So Good and So Fresh product lines: almond beverages, soy beverages and other dairy alternatives.

Earth’s Own products are well-received by Second Harvest’s 225+ recipient agencies because their dairy-alternative products have high nutritional value, a long shelf-life, and allow for accommodation of dietary restrictions. Rex Sheehy, President of Earth’s Own Food Division, says about the nutritional importance of his product: “[they] offer a plant-based option for everyone. All our beverages are excellent sources of calcium, vitamins D and B12, and are gluten, carrageenan and cholesterol free.”

Sheehy is enthusiastic about Earth’s Own partnership with Second Harvest; his company is dedicated to both nutritional innovation and sustainability. He explains, “at Earth’s Own, we’re passionate about giving back to our communities – it’s part of our philosophy and DNA.  Supporting organizations like Second Harvest with our in-kind donations helps connect us with both our communities and our consumers.”

Sheehy adds that Second Harvest's mission aligns with their community involvement initiatives: “It’s our aim [at Earth's Own] to give back to our communities by encouraging people to think about the food they eat – what goes in it, where it comes from, and who grows it. It’s also about promoting and getting behind hunger awareness & prevention programs and helping to provide everyone with access to great tasting, nutritious food, just like Second Harvest.”
