Second Harvest Congratulates RUSH on Humanitarian Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RUSH Has Been Supporting Food Rescue and Providing Meals to Those in Need for 25 Years
March 13, 2015 – On the heels of the announcement by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), that RUSH is set to receive the 2015 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award, Second Harvest congratulates the band members on this inspiring accomplishment!
The Allan Waters Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding Canadian artists whose contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada. Leaders in music and philanthropy, the band - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart – have been supporting Second Harvest’s food rescue program since 1990.
“Just as music has the power to change lives; a healthy, nutritious meal can prepare a child for their day at school, it can provide community to a senior who is isolated, it can provide security to a woman escaping domestic abuse. Like music, food changes lives,” said Debra Lawson, Executive Director of Second Harvest. “RUSH’s dedication to improving the lives of others is truly inspiring. On behalf of everyone at Second Harvest, and those we serve, we extend our sincere congratulations to the band as they receive this milestone award.”
The band will receive the award at the Juno Awards in Hamilton on March 14. To learn more about getting involved in Second Harvest’s food rescue program visit secondharvest.ca.
About Second Harvest

The food is delivered daily to more than 200 social service agencies feeding people experiencing hunger across Toronto. Since 1985 Second Harvest has rescued and delivered almost 100 million pounds of good food, thus preventing almost 50 million pounds of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. Second Harvest’s vision: No Waste. No Hunger.
