Marking 25 Years of Second Harvest’s Common-Sense Approach to Hunger
On April 15th, 2010 Second Harvest held its 25th Anniversary Volunteer and Donor Recognition Event at The 519 Church Street Community Centre. The event recognized and paid tribute to the many supporters who have helped Second Harvest over 25 years serve the communities in which they live. In honour of Second Harvest’s 25 years of serving the city, the CN Tower lit up green on Thursday at sunset!
This year, Second Harvest recognized three incredible volunteers: William Leung was named Office Volunteer of the Year, Pina De Leo was named Operations Volunteer of the Year and Sarah Siddiqi was the recipient of the Ian Lawson Van Toch Award for Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year.
We honoured our long standing donors and supporters: The Daniels Corporation, Loblaw, The Morrison Foundation, The Sprott Foundation and Scotiabank. We also recognized our amazing Hunger Squad teams: RBC, Scotiabank, Aird & Berlis LLP, The Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Mackenzie Financial.
Thank you to all who made the event such a success! We couldn't do it without you!

A few words from our Volunteer Recipients
“It pains me to think of the many children and young teens going to school hungry every day. We need to nourish them to change tomorrow. I knew that I could contribute positively towards Second Harvest because I felt that I had the gift of working with people to encourage them to give.” – Pina De Leo
“Thank you all so much for supporting and encouraging me. I really appreciate it! It’s not hard to put in time and effort into a cause that is dear to your heart. I will continue to support Second Harvest's Lunch Money Day.” – Sarah Siddiqi
“When I was in chef school, I heard what Second Harvest does with surplus food, donating it to people who need it most. I knew I wanted to start volunteering in events and the office. I believe in the cause and enjoy working with the other volunteers and staff.” – William Leung
