In this newly created role, the Senior Development Officer, Individual Giving will support the development of the major gifts program at Second Harvest, and is responsible for cultivating, converting, and stewarding a pipeline of 100+ individual major gift prospects ($5,000+). We are looking for a seasoned, strategic individual who is passionate about building meaningful and impactful relationships to further our mission.

You Will

  • Participate in strategic planning activities in collaboration with team members, to identify and implement fundraising goals/activities. 
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Philanthropy and the Senior Manager, Philanthropy to develop and execute major giving fundraising campaigns and achieve annual fundraising targets.
  • Build and execute personalized moves management strategies for a pipeline of 100+ major gifts prospects, with a focus on one-to-one in-person engagements. 
  • Working closely with our donor stewardship team, support the creation and execution of a major donor stewardship program designed to connect our donors with the impact of their support.
  • Develop and execute appropriate donor recognition tactics, ensuring the generosity of our donors is acknowledged in a meaningful way. 
  • Proactively identify and research new major gifts prospects.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to craft impactful, high-quality donor solicitation and cultivation materials. 
  • Accurately track donor communications, touchpoints, and pipeline in the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.

You Are

  • Fundraiser: You are very seasoned when it comes to soliciting donors and prospects for financial requests (with substantial proven success with individual giving and/or major gifts). You have significant and demonstrated success in securing $5,000+ gifts.
  • Relationship Builder: You are able to leverage your passion for hunger relief and environmental protection to build meaningful connections with our supporters.
  • Donor-Focused: You put the donor at the heart of your work and understand the power of effective stewardship and communication as a means to cultivate strong, long-term relationships.
  • Collaborative: you have a positive, collaborative working style with the ability to manage competing interests with diplomacy. 
  • Communicator: you have excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Specialized fundraising training and/or accreditation would be considered an asset.
  • Proven abilities with donor management databases (specifically Raiser’s Edge) would be considered an asset.
  • *Bilingualism (French and English) is strongly preferred. 
  • Able to travel and have a Valid Class G driver’s license (mileage compensated). 
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate donor schedules and/or attend Second Harvest events.
