across Canada.
These donations provided healthy meals to hundreds of Inuvialuit living in the ISR where access to affordable, quality food is often challenging. Due to the high cost and logistical issues of shipping food to our isolated communities, as well as the socioeconomic inequities that persist, food sovereignty has long been an issue in the ISR. It is in partnership with great organizations like Second Harvest that we will begin to alleviate some of the historic and systemic causes of strain on individuals and families in our region ... We at The Mustard Seed accommodate anywhere from 50-150 guests, 3 meals a day using these products. All of the food donations that we receive [from Second Harvest] are put directly into meals and sometimes used to bake treats for the guests. The Mustard Seed feeds and provides for community members facing homelessness and poverty. One guest in particular is always complimenting the variety and taste of our food
We provide monthly grocery vouchers through our prenatal and early childhood programs for children aged 6 and under. We also do traditional meat and fish distribution twice or more per year. Any outside assistance such as the Second Harvest program helps our vulnerable population with food stability.
