Avoidable food waste produces the same amount of CO₂ emissions as 253,000 flights from Toronto to Vancouver per year. Our food system is integral to our society, while also contributing to food waste and climate change. Through this presentation, group discussions, take-home activities, and additional resources, secondary school students will learn how food is wasted throughout the system and how it impacts our planet.
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Explore the connection between food waste and its impact on climate change.
- Summarize the stages of the food system and why food is wasted at each stage.
