How Second Harvest works with processors and manufacturers to transform food.

Join a network of industry leaders helping to shape the future of food with Second Harvest.

Food transformation is a critical strategy to prevent avoidable food waste and stabilize non-profit food supply. At its core, food transformation maximizes food rescue at scale. It unlocks large volumes of surplus that may otherwise go to waste and smooths the variability by turning this surplus into consistent storage inventory that can be deployed when needed and significantly increase total food available.

As Canada’s largest food rescue organization and national leader on food waste solutions, Second Harvest is investing in regional processing and co-packing partnerships with industry leaders across Canada.

We are actively engaging food processors and manufacturers that can help us to:

  • Process surplus produce. Transforming bulk totes through washing and bagging fresh, chopping and freezing or dehydrating into shelf-stable product.
  • Co-pack shelf-stable products. Repacking bulk totes into more ready-to-distribute retail formats.
  • Converting raw ingredients into ready-to-use food products. Cook and portion grains and pulses, blend surplus produce into juice products and fruit purees.
