We’re looking for skilled DZ drivers who wants to put their experience to work in a role with real social impact. In this position, you’ll do more than deliver food—you’ll help ensure surplus food gets to the communities that need it most, while building meaningful connections across the GTA.</p> <p>As a Driver–Ambassador, you’ll safely transport rescued food between donors, our warehouse, and community partners, helping ensure food reaches communities across our network. You’ll also represent Second Harvest through positive interactions with food donors and partner organizations, helping bring our mission to life every day.</p> <p>This role is ideal for drivers (3+ years’ experience) who enjoy being active, independent, and hands-on—but who also value purpose, community, and making a difference every day.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Your Impact:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Deliver with purpose:</strong> Safely operate Second Harvest <strong>straight box trucks</strong> to complete scheduled food pickups and deliveries, ensuring food reaches community partners efficiently, on time, and with care. Adhere to all safety standards, organizational policies, and the <em>Highway Traffic Act</em>.</li> <li><strong>Community ambassador:</strong> Represent Second Harvest on every route—building positive relationships with food donors and community partners and acting as a visible champion of our mission to reduce hunger and food waste.</li> <li><strong>Engage with impact:</strong> Interact daily with agencies and donors, helping strengthen our network and support equitable food distribution across communities.</li> <li><strong>Handle food responsibly:</strong> Ensure all food is handled, transported, and delivered in compliance with food safety standards, maintaining quality.</li> <li><strong>Safety Focused:</strong> Complete daily circle checks and vehicle inspections; promptly report concerns and maintain strict adherence to Health &amp; Safety requirements.</li> <li><strong>Reliable and Accountable:</strong> Arrive prepared and on time for each shift, supporting smooth and efficient route execution.</li> <li><strong>Load, unload, and move product:</strong> Safely load and unload food—often involving manual handling (“hand bombing”). This is a physically active role requiring regular lifting, carrying, and movement throughout the shift.</li> <li><strong>Ensure proper storage and transport:</strong> Manage safe storage (e.g., freezer, cooler, truck) and ensure vehicles are operated and parked in approved locations.</li> <li><strong>Teamwork</strong><strong>:</strong> Collaborate with Driver–Ambassadors, the Lead Driver–Ambassador, and the Fleet Supervisor to support efficient, equitable operations.</li> <li><strong>Maintain accurate records:</strong> Complete all required documentation for pickups, deliveries, and vehicle use in a timely and accurate manner.</li> <li><strong>Service Excellence</strong>: Provide a high level of professionalism, communication, and care in all interactions.</li> <li>Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support fleet and warehouse operations.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Who You Are:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Skilled and experienced driver:</strong> You hold a valid DZ license with 3+ years of experience operating 10-speed automatic (straight/box) trucks. You maintain a clean driver’s abstract (3 years) and take pride in delivering routes safely, efficiently, and accurately.</li> <li><strong>Safety comes first:</strong> You’re a confident, defensive driver with a strong understanding of the <em>Highway Traffic Act</em> and a consistent track record of safe driving and adherence to Health &amp; Safety standards.</li> <li><strong>Confident in the city:</strong> You know the GTA—especially downtown Toronto—and are comfortable navigating busy, urban routes and tight delivery locations.</li> <li><strong>Professional on the road:</strong> You bring a positive, respectful approach to every interaction, with strong customer service skills and the ability to represent Second Harvest with professionalism.</li> <li><strong>Clear communicator:</strong> You communicate effectively with dispatch, team members, donors, and</li> <li><strong>Hands-on and physically capable:</strong> You’re comfortable in an active role that includes climbing in/out of the truck and regularly lifting up to 50 lbs throughout your shift.</li> <li><strong>Dependable and organized:</strong> You manage your time well, stay on schedule, and adapt to changing routes and daily demands.</li> <li><strong>Driven by purpose:</strong> You take pride in work that makes a difference—helping reduce food waste and support communities across Toronto.</li> <li><strong>Nice to have:</strong> Experience in the non-profit or social services sector, and/or food handling experience.
